Paul MacCready on nature vs. humans

In his 1998 talk, MacCready talks about human development versus nature. Although this is a very interesting point, he has a big focus on aircraft development which is not relevant for our project.

Unimaginable value of nature

As E.O. Wilson accepts his 2007 TED Prize, he makes a plea on behalf of all creatures that we learn more about our biosphere — and build a networked encyclopedia of all the world’s knowledge about life. Watch video on TED.com

With the majority of the world’s spicies not yet discovered, E.O. Wilson states we are flying blind into the environmental future. Ofcourse it’s clear to anyone we need nature to survive, but from an economical perspective we only need the resources, not untouched nature. Wilson makes clear that this is a big mistake and the way we are going now means the extermination of millions of species not even yet discovered, species that might be the very species enabling humans to live on planet earth.

An Economic Perspective

Chris Martenson gives a crash course of US Economic history, and an alarming statement on current trends.

This is a series of videos by Chris Martenson, explaining the basics of United States/global economy. In just under three and a half hours he goes through the basic factors that formed the economy of today. He also gives a view on possibilities how to handle the resulting crisis. It is a worthwhile sit if one wants to grasp a basic understanding and everything is presented in a way that is also understandable by the average Joe. Downside to this simplicity that the video sometimes lacks depth and gives some very simplistic examples.
