Yochai Benkler explains using many examples emerging on the internet that collaboration is much stronger than traditional organizations. In an information economy in which we live, it’s a very powerful fact that almost anyone in this most advanced economy has a computer. Benkler argues that a computer is in fact the one most important building blocks in this economy, opening up the way to true collaboration in a what he calls ‘open source economics’.
Benkler comes to this conclusion based on evaluating trends on the internet, making a distinction between trends and the fundamental change internet will bring. Apache servers which is an open source project has 70% of the market share as opposed to the 20% Microsoft has. In this talk, Yochai Benkler explains that collaborative projects like these represent the next stage of human organization. He focusses not these projects in itself, but the concept of collaboration.
Other sources also indicate that collaboration might be an unique approach to the eco-currency problem we face in this project.
